OKX Singapore review

OKX SG is one of the cheapest licensed ways to buy crypto in Singapore: free instant PayNow deposits, free FAST withdrawals and order-book fees around 0.1%. The trade-off is a smaller coin list than OKX’s global site and no derivatives.

Verdict at a glance

OKX arrived late to Singapore’s licensed market but arrived properly. Its local entity got its Major Payment Institution licence in September 2024, and two months later it switched on something rivals still charge for: instant SGD deposits and withdrawals with no fee, running through DBS. Put that next to order-book fees around a tenth of a percent and you have one of the lowest all-in costs available to a Singapore resident who wants a local licence.

It is not the right platform for everyone. The Singapore app carries a subset of what OKX lists worldwide, futures and margin are off the table for retail users, and the interface still feels built for traders first. If you want a simple “buy S$200 of Bitcoin” button and nothing else, you may find it busier than you need.

What OKX SG costs

We start with fees because that is the reason most people look at OKX. There are three layers to think about: getting SGD in, the trade itself, and getting money or coins out.

A word of honesty about the trading rates. OKX’s published global entry tier is 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker, and that is what independent sources quote for Singapore too. When we tried to read the Singapore fee page in October 2026, the tier table did not load for us, so we could not confirm the local numbers line by line. The fee your account is actually charged appears on the order confirmation and in your fee tier settings. Check it once before you place anything large.

The bigger point is that most of what you save comes from the funding rails, not the decimals. On a S$1,000 purchase, a 0.10% taker fee is S$1. A platform with a 0.5% spread costs you S$5 on the same order, and one with a 1.49% fee plus a convenience fee can cost you more than S$20. You can run your own numbers in the calculator on our cheapest way to buy Bitcoin page.

The catch most beginners walk into is the convert screen. It is the easiest place to tap, and the price you see there includes a margin that a limit order on the order book avoids. If cost is your reason for picking OKX, learn to use the spot trading screen. It takes about five minutes.

PayNow and FAST through DBS

Illustration of a contactless payment terminal

In November 2024 OKX announced instant, zero-fee SGD deposits by PayNow and withdrawals by FAST, with DBS providing the banking rails. Customers of any of the 27 participating institutions can use it, which covers the banks most people in Singapore hold accounts with, including DBS/POSB, OCBC and UOB.

In practice the flow is the same as paying a hawker by QR. You open the deposit screen, choose SGD and PayNow, and either scan the QR code with your banking app or send to the reference shown. The money usually lands within a minute or two. Withdrawals go back by FAST to a bank account in your own name.

Two habits keep this smooth. First, send from an account in your own name; third-party deposits are a classic trigger for compliance holds on any licensed platform. Second, don’t treat your exchange balance as a current account. Banks watch for patterns that look like money-mule activity, and Singapore tightened its rules on that from October 2025. Our PayNow guide compares deposit limits across platforms, and the cash-out guide covers withdrawals without tripping bank alerts.

Strengths and weaknesses

What we like

  • Free, instant PayNow deposits and FAST withdrawals, a rarity among licensed platforms
  • Order-book fees around 0.1%, among the lowest for Singapore retail
  • MAS Major Payment Institution licence, with customer assets held under the statutory trust rules
  • Singpass verification makes onboarding quick
  • OKX Pay lets you spend USDT or USDC at GrabPay QR merchants

Watch out for

  • Fewer coins than OKX’s global site, and no derivatives for Singapore retail
  • The convert button carries a spread that undercuts the low headline fee
  • Trader-oriented interface can overwhelm first-time buyers
  • We could not read a Singapore-specific fee schedule to confirm tiers
  • Global OKX marketing can blur which features apply locally

Coins, products and what is missing

OKX SG lists a subset of OKX’s global catalogue. You will find Bitcoin, Ether, the main stablecoins and a reasonable spread of large-cap altcoins, but not every token OKX lists worldwide. We have not published a coin count because the list changes and OKX does not publish a stable Singapore number we could verify. Open the markets screen in the Singapore app to see what is live for you.

The missing pieces are mostly the ones MAS took away on purpose. Under the consumer measures announced in November 2023, licensed platforms cannot offer leverage or margin to retail customers, cannot pay you incentives to trade, and cannot lend out or stake your coins on your behalf without proper safeguards. So when you see OKX promote perpetual futures, high-yield earn products or trading competitions on social media, assume they are not part of the Singapore offer. That is not a flaw of OKX SG specifically. It is what a licensed Singapore account looks like, and the legal guide explains why.

If you need a specific small-cap token that is not on the Singapore list, you are better served by holding your core position on a licensed platform and accepting the trade-offs of an international exchange for the rest. Our home page compares the main options on that question.

OKX Pay and OKX Wallet

OKX Pay launched in Singapore in September 2025. Inside the OKX SG app you scan a GrabPay merchant’s SGQR code and pay from your USDT or USDC balance. StraitsX handles settlement in the background, converting the stablecoins through its XSGD token so the merchant receives Singapore dollars. The participating merchants include chains such as Toast Box, Cedele, Jumbo and Best Denki, and smaller outlets, including hawker stalls, that take GrabPay QR.

It is a genuinely useful feature if you already hold stablecoins, and the merchant does not need to know anything about crypto. Just remember that spending stablecoins is a sale like any other, and that a USDT-to-SGD conversion may carry a small cost. Our crypto payments guide looks at where else you can pay this way.

OKX Wallet is a different animal. It is a self-custody wallet: you hold the recovery phrase, OKX does not hold the coins, and nothing in it is protected by OKX SG’s licence or the statutory trust. That is fine if you want self-custody, but it means a lost phrase or a malicious approval is your problem alone. If you are deciding between leaving coins on the exchange, using an app wallet or buying hardware, read our wallet guide first.

Licence and safety

OKX SG Pte. Ltd. holds a Major Payment Institution licence for digital payment token services under the Payment Services Act. It received in-principle approval in early 2024 and the full licence that September, and it was listed in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory when we checked on 20 October 2026. The licence also covers cross-border money transfer.

What the licence gives you: MAS supervises the entity’s anti-money-laundering controls and technology risk management, and customer assets must be kept in a statutory trust, separate from the company’s own. What it does not give you: protection against price falls, or deposit insurance of the kind that covers bank accounts. A licence reduces platform risk. It does not remove it.

Make sure you are on the Singapore entity

OKX runs many regional entities. Sign up through okx.com/en-sg and check that your terms name OKX SG Pte. Ltd. Messages offering “OKX VIP support” on Telegram or WhatsApp are scams; OKX SG will not ask you to move coins to another platform or share your screen. Check any unfamiliar name against the MAS Investor Alert List and read our scams guide.

On account security, turn on an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, set a withdrawal address allowlist, and use a password you don’t use anywhere else. These take ten minutes and stop most account takeovers.

Who it suits

OKX SG suits people who know roughly what they want to buy and care about keeping costs down. Someone setting aside a few hundred dollars a month into Bitcoin and Ether, funding by PayNow and placing limit orders, will pay very little here. It also suits stablecoin holders who like the idea of tapping a GrabPay QR at a kopitiam with USDC.

It suits less well the absolute beginner who wants a one-button app, the trader who wants derivatives, and the collector of small tokens. For a first purchase that feels more guided, Coinbase or Coinhako may be gentler. For large trades with a human on the other end, Independent Reserve’s OTC desk is the more natural fit.

Alternatives

The closest licensed rival on cost is Independent Reserve, which also has free PayNow deposits (up to S$200,000 each) and an OTC desk, but a higher entry trading fee. Coinhako is the local app with GrabPay funding and a simpler flow, at around 0.6% per trade. Coinbase offers the gentlest learning curve and XSGD conversion. Gemini and Crypto.com are both licensed too, with very different pricing models. If you want card payments and a much wider coin list from an established international exchange, our CEX.IO review sets out what you gain and the protections you give up. The full side-by-side comparison is on our exchange table, and the official register is on our MAS-licensed exchanges page.

Frequently asked questions

Is OKX legal in Singapore?

Yes. OKX serves Singapore residents through OKX SG Pte. Ltd., which received a Major Payment Institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore in September 2024. You can confirm the entry yourself in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory. Make sure you sign up through the Singapore site (okx.com/en-sg) so your account sits with the licensed entity.

What are OKX Singapore’s trading fees?

OKX’s published entry-level spot rates are about 0.08% for maker orders and 0.10% for taker orders, falling with volume. We could not load a Singapore-specific schedule when we checked in October 2026, so confirm the rate shown in your own account before placing a large order. Convert and instant-buy screens can include a spread on top.

Does OKX SG charge for PayNow deposits?

No. Since November 2024 OKX SG has offered instant, zero-fee SGD deposits by PayNow and withdrawals by FAST through DBS, for customers whose bank is one of the 27 participating institutions. Your own bank may have its own limits.

Can I trade futures or use leverage on OKX in Singapore?

Not as a Singapore retail customer. OKX SG offers spot trading, and MAS consumer-protection rules stop licensed platforms from offering leverage to retail customers. The derivatives you see on OKX’s global marketing are not part of the Singapore product.

Can I sign up for OKX SG with Singpass?

Yes. OKX launched Singpass verification for Singapore customers alongside its SGD rails in November 2024, which pre-fills your identity details. You still complete the MAS-required risk awareness assessment before you can trade.

Is OKX Wallet the same as my OKX SG account?

No. OKX Wallet is a separate self-custody wallet: you hold the keys, and the coins are not held by OKX SG under its MAS licence. Your exchange account is custodial. Treat them as two different products with different risks.
